Is it a gimmick or an honest mistake?

Not sure why I found this so funny… but today I received two identical promotional emails from a printing company I once used. A few hours later they sent the following:

oops Is it a gimmick or an honest mistake?

Let me get this straight- they’re apologizing for sending out too many emails by sending yet another email?? At this point I suspect it is part of some marketing gimmick. The duplicate emails + the follow up email were just an elaborate ruse to gain more impact and exposure. They couldn’t just send out a bunch of duplicate emails, because then people would get annoyed and are likely to unsubscribe from their mailing list. The purpose of the follow up email was to soften the blow and make it seem less spammy and more “friendly”. I may just be overly suspicious, seeing conspiracies where there are none. Call me crazy. But then again, people/companies go to extreme measures these days to stand out.

Generally marketing emails clog my inbox and annoy me. I suppose I should get mad at this company for their subterfuge. Instead I would like to thank them for providing me with a few moments of entertainment today.

Totally unrelated topic

My former college sent out a survey to alumni, and this was one of the questions:

gender Is it a gimmick or an honest mistake?

Yes, I went to an art school. Art school students do get a rep for being weird and different. But really, what falls under the category of other??? Unless they meant to write “confused” instead of other. Thoughts, people?

If what you’re saying is correct, they are absolute geniuses at marketing! I fell for it lol. Not that I would actually use them or anything, but I can see where people would fall for it. Smart, very smart.

Considering that they’re in the printing business, UPrinting may know a thing or two about marketing. Not to say that all printing companies are advertising/design experts, but UPrinting seems to be a pretty big company, and judging by their clean website and google ranking someone there knows what they’re doing.
