Now that summer is officially over, I guess it’s about time I updated this blog! Looking over my calendar from the past few months, it looks like I’ve been pretty busy… so here are some of my summer highlights.
• Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Papermill Playhouse
One of my favorite musicals, and a really nice production. It starred Laurie Veldheer (from Newsies) as Millie.
• NYC Ballet (x 2)
My awesome friend YTR bought me tickets as an early birthday present. The show was superb- clever lyrics, amazing scenery/staging/choreography and Gabriel Ebert (as Mr. Wormwood) gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen on Broadway. Incidentally, he also won a Tony a few weeks later.
• Yankees Game with friends
• Private sailboat ride on the Hudson River with a Captain
I love boats. Enough said.
• Dinner @ My Most Favorite for a friend’s birthday
• Family lunch @ Le Marais for my father’s birthday
• Weekend @ Bushkill Inn and hiking at Bushkill Falls
• Central Park Zoo with niece and nephews
• Forever Tango on Broadway
Took my mother for her birthday – Forever Tango is one of the best shows I have ever seen, hands down. I expected to see great dancing and it was even better than that. But what really blew me away was the orchestra. They played music in between the many costume changes and I seriously never knew that an accordion could sound so good.
This has been a dream/obsession of mine for years. I planned the trip a few times, only to have friends back out. Somehow it finally happened!!! Yes, it’s a crazy looooong plane ride, but so worth it. Read about my trip here.
I had pretty low expectations for Austenland, especially since the book (by Shannon Hale) was not that good… but it was actually laugh out loud funny. The whole audience was rolling with laughter, and it was obvious that the movie was poking fun at itself.
• First Date on Broadway
Funny enough, this was the first time that none of my married friends could commit, so it was a real single girls night. We met Zachary Levi at the stage door and he was super nice. He came out with a boombox and was dancing around while signing autographs! (Incidentally, this is why I am now addicted to Chuck.)
• Labor Day BBQ
One of my friends had been trying to make a BBQ all summer long- but she’s new to NYC and didn’t realize that it is illegal to barbecue in most public parks. She was ready to give up on the idea when I though of a backyard we could use… and so the BBQ was saved. It was a nice way to end the summer and chill out with all my friends before the holiday rush.
Hope you all enjoyed your summer as much as I did… now back to the daily grind.
